History
Background
Girls water polo became a sanctioned sport in CIF in 1996. Prior to this, girls had to join the boys team if they wanted to play water polo.
Mira Costa's first girls head coach was Terri Kilgore in 1997 for one year and Jon Reichardt took over in 1998. Jon was one of the coaches who spearheaded the campaign to make girls water polo its own CIF sport while he was still coaching at his alma mater, Coronado HS. He led a strong, stable program at Mira Costa until he stepped down from the girls program in 2024.
During his tenure, the Mira Costa girls team won the Bay League crown 17 out of 27 seasons, reached the CIF semifinals 8 times, and reached the CIF finals 3 times.
34+ athletes have been recruited to play at 4-year universities, including Jordan Raney, who was a 2024 Olympian, as well as many more going on to play club or at a junior college.
Kyle Nadel took over the program in the 24/25 season.
Adoni Nahabed took over the program in the 25/26 season.
